What is "Strategy"?
Every company has a core set of business capabilities that perform at varying degrees of effectiveness. This core set of business capabilities and their effectiveness constitutes a value proposition in the marketplace. Strategy is defined as the selection of and relative difference or positioning of this core set of enterprise capabilities relative to marketplace competitors. Strategy Planning is the process of reviewing each core capability and its current effectiveness via key performance indicators (KPIs) relative to marketplace competition and making any needed corrections by: Eliminating, Raising, Reducing, Creating (ERRC). Strategy Execution is the use of Enterprise Architecture (EA) and Enterprise Solution Architecture (ESA) practices along with Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) to implement projects that fortify these core capabilities via ERRC. Strategy Alignment then happens when the EA Roadmap incorporates the right mix of projects into a portfolio to achieve strategic objectives defined by the leadership team.
